Belize Future Engineers Fellowship Programme Announces Inaugural Fellows

Bowen & Bowen Limited and Valley of Peace Farms Limited, together with founding partner Belize Water Services Limited, are proud to announce the inaugural recipients of the Belize Future Engineers Fellowship Programme, a collaborative initiative designed to develop the next generation of Belizean engineers.

The Fellowship provides outstanding Belizean students with the opportunity to pursue fully funded undergraduate engineering degrees at The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus. Each award covers tuition and university fees, travel, accommodation, and a monthly living stipend, allowing recipients to focus on their studies as they prepare for careers that will help shape Belize's future.

By investing in local engineering talent, the Programme will help strengthen Belize's capacity to expand its industrial base, improve productivity, encourage innovation, and support long-term economic growth. It will also create rewarding professional opportunities for young Belizeans.

Following graduation, each fellow will begin their engineering career with their sponsoring organisation in Belize, applying their knowledge and skills while gaining valuable professional experience and contributing to the country’s development.

Patrick Herbert – Electrical & Computer Engineering, Sponsored by Valley of Peace Farms

Raheem Flowers – Electrical & Computer Engineering, Sponsored by Bowen & Bowen

Both Fellows have arrived in Trinidad and Tobago and have begun their studies at the St. Augustine Campus.

The Fellowship was created to address the growing demand for engineering talent across Belize's key industries while creating life-changing educational opportunities for exceptional students. By working together, the partner organisations are investing in the country's future workforce, strengthening Belize's technical capacity, and helping local industries access the engineering expertise needed to grow and compete.

“This Fellowship reflects what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared vision. By supporting talented young Belizeans today, we are helping to develop the engineers who will drive innovation, strengthen our industries, and contribute to the country's continued growth for generations to come. We congratulate Raheem Flowers and look forward to him joining Bowen & Bowen after completion of his studies." Michael H. M. Bowen, CEO, Bowen & Bowen, Ltd.

“The Fellowship Program established by Bowen and Bowen Limited is an outstanding initiative that bridges the gap between talented Belizean students and local industry. Valley of Peace Farms Limited is excited to be a part of the inaugural fellowship class and welcomes Mr. Patrick Herbert to our team. Mr. Herbert will be training to become a part of the power generation team at Santander Sugar Limited (of which our company is part owner); there he will provide renewable energy to Belize’s national power grid.” Gilbert Canton Jr., GM, Valley of Peace Farms Limited.

“BWS is pleased to be a partner in an initiative that responds to a real need for technical expertise in Belize. As a company that relies on strong technical expertise every day, BWS understands the importance of developing capable professionals who can contribute to Belize’s continued growth. This programme helps create a pathway for that talent to grow, and we are proud to support its development. We look forward to the opportunity to sponsor a Fellow in a future cohort.” Cornelio Acosta Jr., Chairman, Belize Water Services Ltd.

The Belize Future Engineers Fellowship Programme is intended to become an annual initiative, with opportunities for additional organisations to join the consortium and help expand engineering education and career opportunities for Belizean students. Belize Water Services Ltd expects to sponsor a Fellow in a future cohort.
